Pilates is a movement method developed by Joseph Pilates. Practiced with consistency, Pilates improves flexibility, builds strength, increases core stability, increases  joint stability and mobility, and improves endurance throughout the entire body. It puts emphasis on alignment, posture, breathing, coordination, stability and balance. Pilates aimes for elegant economy of movement, creating flow.  Pilates can be on a mat or equipment like the Reformer. Pilates principles can also be applied to other fitness equipment and exercise tools like the TRX.
