A Brave Heart

I have worked with Bill (William) Wallace as his trainer for several years. He is an inspiration to me and I have always been amazed with his determination, strength and courage with what he’s had to overcome. I awaited his book release for sometime, and “A Brave Heart” is a must read! Bill’s story is an inspiration for anyone who has gone thorough a traumatic experience, injury, or hardships.

A glimpse of “A Brave Heart”

“William Wallace’s first life ended on December 30, 2008. This is his story of how he learned to embrace his second life. Trauma can strike at any moment. Physical, emotional, and psychological impacts leave both visible and invisible wounds that ripple outward and inward. But trauma can also offer an opportunity for growth and greater self-awareness and purpose. A Brave Heart tells one man’s story of overcoming adversity, not through a distinct descent or climb, but by recognizing and nurturing the seeds already within him when his life was changed forever. In his moments of darkness those seeds sprouted, piercing through the despair to generate a new life of deeper meaning and connection”

I recently had the opportunity to ask Bill a few questions after his book came out. Here is what he said:

Me: As I understand it, writing this book has been on your mind for a long time. What made you decide to go ahead and write it?

Bill: Many Dr’s both medical and mental health professionals felt the book would be invaluable to many. They constantly urged and encouraged me to write it.

Me: What emotions came up for you when writing this book?

Bill: Emotions that come to mind we’re remembering what I put Jill (Bill’s wife) through, and how brutal it must have been for her. I also realized how far down I was in the dark deep hole of despair and how far I have come now.

Me: Looking back on the past 11 years, what are you most grateful for?

Bill: I am most grateful for the overall healing environment I was blessed with. So much goes into that, great family, good doctors, people like you, my financial situation, it goes on and on.

Me: What was the most difficult part of your recovery to overcome?

Bill: Getting through 3-4 years of 24/7 non-stop mind bending unimaginable pain.

Me: What advice do you have for others who may have also gone through a traumatic injury or experience  who are having trouble coping with their new situation?

Bill: Don’t look to far into the future or despair about what you think you may have lost. Do the best you can every day to take a step up the ladder. It truly is giving it your all whether it’s in a big way, or a very small way, but make it your best effort one day at a time.

I am truly honored to have been a part of Bill’s recovery process. I know his journey and story will make an impact of inspiration for many, including myself.
